Lea Barcus
Lea Barcus is a multimedia artist whose artistic journey began in childhood, when she spent countless hours crafting scrapbooks and meticulously decorating dollhouses. This early passion led her to study the fine arts in college, where she discovered a love for metal and jewelry design and began creating small scale sculptures.
My Tiny Castles was inspired by her father’s collection of wooden cigar boxes, which he saved knowing Lea’s penchant for creating art from diverse materials. Embracing this unique canvas, Lea began crafting miniature worlds within these boxes, using an eclectic array of found and handcrafted materials, such as beads, vintage jewelry, wire, wood, fabric, and resin, and employing techniques such as needle felting, embroidery, and decoupage. Through her work, Lea invites viewers to delight in imaginative play and to find beauty and meaning in the overlooked and discarded.
